  • Owner: MetroHealth Medical Systems
  • Completion dates: 1995-2000
  • Cost(s): $48M
  • Square footage: 250,000 sq. f.

This project involved upgrading and modernizing nineteen (19) in patient units in the East and West Wings (Towers) of the North Buildings plus the construction of an addition for two new elevators, expanding patient/visitor lounges and new conference/consultantion facilities. The remodeled Nursing Units include: Medical/Surgical, Oncology, Pediatrics, Mental Health, OB/GYN, Step Down and a ten bed CCU. The project included expansion and renovation for a 35 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (12,900 s.f.) a 43 bed Obstetrical Unit/Newborn Nurseries (21,000 s.f.) and a sixteen bed Continuing Care Nursery (3,575 s.f.)

The towers HVAC units and chillers were replaced plus a new VAV system added to all of the nursing units. The total mechanical replacement cost of $6 million had a pay back at 5 years in energy savings. New electrical switch gear was added, as well as new emergency power and a new fire alarm system. The twenty-five year old building was updated in all mechanical and electrical areas.
